The Beneficial Effects of Meditation

To obtain the complete beneficial effects of meditation, we have to understand that it's a process. Meditation is not simply something to do on a whim. It's not a fad or exercise tool that will keep us entertained or in good shape. It's also not a mere relaxation tool.

These are all potential benefits from meditation. Yet, unless we turn meditation into a practice, it loses its spirituality. It is not mindful nor is it respectful for all other living bings, included you. Buddhists would argue that meditation used in such a casual fashion, or treated, as a means of its own, is not true meditation.

According to Geshe Kelsang Gyatso in The Meditation Handbook, “We need to meditate on the sufferings of humans and gods so that we develop a spontaneous wish to attain permanent liberation, or nirvana…We need to meditate on love, compassion and, bodhichitta so that we can overcome our self-cherishing and develop and maintain a good heart towards all living things.” These are all positive benefits of meditation when we practice with mindfulness and dharma.

Parts of the
Meditation Process

In Buddhist tradition, meditation is not a single entity. It's a process. It consists of various components that work together to form an ongoing unit. The basic parts of the meditation process consist of:

  • Preparation or preliminary practices
  • Contemplation
  • Meditation
  • Dedication
  • Subsequent practice

In this system, preparation for meditation is of great importance. It is the means of helping us realize the goal of meditation.

How to Prepare

In beginner meditation, preparation is one of the steps towards spirituality. Employed effectively, it can help someone learning meditation to understand the overall intentions and methods. To prepare for meditation consider the following:

  • Arrange a space or room particularly for meditation – use this same area every time.
  • Set up how you will sit – position a chair, a seat, meditation pillow or cushion on the floor. Alternatively, put a straight-backed chair in place.
  • In front of the cushion or chair, arrange a table or low bench. This is for reading material or CDs and a CD player.
  • Be comfortable – wear loose clothing.
  • Start breathing exercises.
  • Continue with concentration practice.

Only then, when we have properly prepared our space, our bodies and our breath can we begin to work on our mind through meditating.

Benefits of Meditation

The results of proper preparation are multiple. They do not occur immediately. Meditation is not an instant cure for problems. Yet, if we persevere, we can benefit from our resolve. The positive effects of meditation include:

  • Improved concentration
  • Reduced stress
  • An increased self-awareness
  • Improved health
  • An awareness of the NOW

Why Seek Effective Meditation?

The effects of meditation are not short-term. If we practice on a regular basis and prepare ourselves each day to embrace the changes, the benefits will accrue naturally. With mindfulness and respect, we can ensure the crop we produce will be bountiful. By truly trying, the benefits of our steps to spiritual growth will last throughout our lives.

What clients say

I went to Massimo for a healing session in which I experienced calmness and opening of my heart.
All the sadness I had as a child and images from my childhood went by and were gone. An hour treatment went by like ten minutes. In other times I experienced very deep meditations, quietness, yet very alert and awake. Thanks Massimo for helping me get in touch with the healing force within me.

- Liat, Netanya, Israel

Dear Massimo, thanks so much for your healing sessions. So many things changed and improved since the beginning of your treatments. You are very gifted and all you are doing arises from the depth of your heart and the depth of the knowledge you channel. I highly recommend you as a healer.

- Zvi, Tel Aviv, Israel

Good luck: with this single word I can express what I feel to have met Massimo.
I have been knowing him for 10 years and working with him I have done a path to awareness.
He is a good teacher, sincere, honest, which guides you to the truth and peace that our heart desires and can achieve.

- Tiziana, Arezzo, Italy

For me, healing means integrity and the consistency of living my daily life, relationships and job in the way of my true "I".
Massimo has the rare ability to lead people, and therefore me, to
transform obstacles that stand between you and what you want to realize in available energy. He does so with great respect, patience and lack of judgment.
Massimo, thanks for all that I get from you.

- Maria, Udine, Italy

When Massimo gave me healing sessions online, I experienced him as a sensitive and dedicated man who has the gift to sense into deeper layers of the soul and affect them in a gentle and non intruding way. His careful way of approaching the pain in my eyes and the feedback he gave me from his sensitive perceptions helped me to gain trust and confidence in my healing process.
