Meditation Music

With increasing popularity of meditation, different forms of meditation music are being introduced to assist people in achieving the objectives of concentration, focus, healing and the transformation of consciousness.

Music takes us out of the actual and whispers to us dim secrets that startle our wonder as to who we are, and for what, whence, and whereto”-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Why music? An interesting fact is that sound can easily be absorbed by our mind. So when a calming sound is played while meditating, our mind absorbs that sound and creates a projection of the same. The mind then helps us to focus on the music or the sound.

Music is also known as the universal language of God. When the subtle sound of music enters the heart, the heart finds itself immersed in the music. The heart communicates with the music and this becomes a subtle form of inner communion. Slowly, the music helps the mind, heart, and the body to be in commune with each other.

Any type of meditation music you choose during your exercise will help to determine your state of mind. Different music or sounds can evoke in your mind different aspects or qualities of the being and its related skills.

In my opinion, most of the music you find in the market is good for relaxation only.

If you really want to work with your mind through meditation, you need to select meditation music carefully.

In order to do this, you need also to train yourself to listen mindfully, and to feel the kind of vibration the music is carrying. You feel it in your mind, heart and your body. In this way you can use music to work with yourself, to practice different states of mind, to deepen your meditation experience and to receive healing.

Meditation Music Styles

I consider classical music an excellent tool. Classical music, or modern age music that sounds like classical, is very helpful in case you use introspection to transform or overcome your sense of self. In fact, this music can evoke a complete palette of emotions, states of mind, body sensations and unconscious experiences you can work on. Think about how a movie soundtrack impacts you !

There are different styles of music for meditation:

Soothing music

Soothing music can be compared to pure bliss. It is soft and helps in calming the mind so that it can focus on the chakras and energy field. Normally, soothing music doesn’t have any vocal rendition and is composed using instruments like violin, piano, sitar, bagpipes, table etc.

Mantra music

The mantra for meditation is a completely different form of music for meditation. This type of music has vocal rendition of mantra’s and instruments in the background. The tempo of this type of music can vary from slow to fast. Mantras have different purposes such as liberation, healing, blessing, removing obstacles to awareness and flourishing of positive states of mind.

Binaural music

This type of music for meditation comes from modern research in psycho-acoustics and physiology and contains binaural beats. This music is created in such a way that it has a direct and profound effect on your mind. It helps the mind to relax and focus.

Mindfulness bells

One of the most powerful meditation aids, the mindfulness bells can be quite loud and accompanied by overtones. The salient aspect of this music is that it has a tone of religion and is great for prayer meditation.

Does music for meditation really help?

Meditation music helps only if you are able to choose the right music for the type of meditation you practice. For example: if you choose mantra music for deep breathing meditation then it might not be as effective as soothing music could be.

Here is how meditation music really helps:

  • Music for meditation can help calm your mind and help remove stress and its underlying causes.
  • Music can facilitate a process of self inquiry
  • Listening to music during meditation improves memory retention.
  • Music for meditation helps in activating specific areas within your brain, which will help you in being more attentive.
  • Music can increase endorphin level in your body and thus increase feelings of euphoria.
  • Repetitive learnings like mantra embedded in the music will help in engaging your mind and create new neuro-pathways.
  • Music for meditation acts as a therapy in patients suffering from many diseases.
  • Music during meditation can help in lowering blood pressure and assist in better heart functioning. It also helps in reducing the tension in muscles.

What clients say

I went to Massimo for a healing session in which I experienced calmness and opening of my heart.
All the sadness I had as a child and images from my childhood went by and were gone. An hour treatment went by like ten minutes. In other times I experienced very deep meditations, quietness, yet very alert and awake. Thanks Massimo for helping me get in touch with the healing force within me.

When Massimo gave me healing sessions online, I experienced him as a sensitive and dedicated man who has the gift to sense into deeper layers of the soul and affect them in a gentle and non intruding way. His careful way of approaching the pain in my eyes and the feedback he gave me from his sensitive perceptions helped me to gain trust and confidence in my healing process.
